When it comes to finding a job, your connections and networks can be very useful. They create introductions and opportunities, they can vouch for us, recommend us and verify our integrity. If you’d like to benefit from more contacts, there are plenty of (often fun) ways to expand your networks.
Begin by identifying your existing connections. These may include family, friends, housemates, ex-colleagues etc. If there are people you’ve lost touch with, get in contact again and make a point of maintaining regular contact.

Online communities make it easy to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds and with a range of interests. They’re a great way to expand your connections from the comfort of your own home. Facebook, for example, has many neighbourhood and community pages and groups.
International students in particular find it helpful to connect with people from the same country as themselves. Deakin College has students from a range of backgrounds and there are many student groups that you can join based on your cultural background.
